Gomotiv design skills on display with VF Wild and VF3 at CES 2024

PRESS RELEASE - January 9, 2024, Las Vegas, Nevada - Australian design studio demonstrates its competitive automotive design services with its latest EV designs for Vinfast - the VF Wild and VF3 - unveiled today at CES 2024.

Gomotiv’s successful partnership with Vinfast has brought to life their vision for two new concept cars. This is the first time an independent Australian design studio has been responsible for the design of a complete showcar and production vehicle on behalf of a global OEM.

Gomotiv developed the VinFast CES debut vehicle VF Wild from concept to release in record time, says Robert Thorpe, Gomotiv Studio Director. “The client was very clear that they wanted to establish a strong brand identity built on previous vehicles in their range. They specifically asked us to create a mid-size truck with high appeal and flexibility not present in the current pick up market,” he adds.

“We have a strong working relationship with Vinfast and our team worked with their leadership and design team to help deliver their interior and exterior vision, developing concepts and then executing the showcar design and development over a six-month period – an incredibly fast result for an OEM,” Thorpe comments. “The team produced amazing work and we are very pleased for the client.”

The VF Wild is no ordinary pickup with styling that is confident, commanding, and thoroughly modern. It combines the practicality of a power-folding midgate enabling the class-leading bed to expand from 5 to 8 feet, folding cantilever seats, plus an integrated panoramic glass roof. “The Wild design is intended to make drivers feel like they can venture beyond the daily grind and explore the great outdoors. With the practicality of the expanding bed, work and play can be done in style and comfort,” shared Thorpe.

Meanwhile the VF3, a mini-eSUV initially shared as a concept in June 2023, features a balance of robust geometric blocks and sleek lines, creating an aesthetically pleasing exterior. “Our brief was to design a compact modern vehicle for drivers who value practicality with contemporary city inspired styling. We’re so pleased that the VF3 was shared globally at CES today,” Thorpe said.

Launched in 2020, Gomotiv brings together an all-star team of experienced vehicle designers and the studio has worked with clients such as Ford, Nissan, Chery and VinFast. Gomotiv grew out of Outerspace Design, which for more than three decades has combined design and engineering expertise to create successful products in industries such as consumer electronics, fitness, agriculture and more.

“When the automotive industry left Australia, we didn’t want the specialist design skills to die out here,” says Fred Blochlinger, founder of Outerspace Design. “So we set up Gomotiv as an alternative to the European studios and we’re  pleased that we’ve won out against those long-standing design houses.”

“We started pulling the vision together in late 2020 as part of an independent group inside Outerspace,” Thorpe adds. “We felt the time was right for another studio to compete globally.”

While Gomotiv is a new design firm, its staff has decades of design experience from around the globe and includes nearly two dozen people working in design, digital sculpting, studio engineering and program management who previously worked in senior positions at Ford, General Motors, Toyota, McLaren, Jaguar, Kia and other major OEMs.

“We’re focused on designing complete vehicles like we saw today for Vinfast  – all the way from concept sketches to show car design and to production release – successfully competing with established studios,” says Thorpe.

”We work closely with our clients to define a strong brand identity and design language to set them apart from competitors in a crowded market.  Quality design will differentiate brands.”

Vinfast’s VF Wild and VF3 are on display at booth 6417, West Hall, at the Las Vegas Exhibition Center, and the Vinfast show stand will also be open to show attendees between January 9-12.
